After taking a break in 2009 the Austrian Snooker Open 2010 were held again in Wels last week, with an even more impressive list of professional Snooker players than the years before – including current World Champion Neil Robertson. Other participants: Shaun Murphy, Peter Ebdon, Mark Williams, Mark King and many more. And here are some of the photos:

So here they are, the final result of the next round of materials – two Cola bottles. You could argue that the photos don’t really reflect the intention of the original assignment, but I just felt like burning hour after hour in Photoshop
That’s also why you get to see the out of cam photos this time.
Some explanations: For the first photo I used two striplights from behind for the rim light and also for that nice orange shine-through reflection (after heavily diluting the bottle’s content) plus a small 40×40 softbox from below for some fill and some interesting reflections. Background light was a SB-800.
At the second shoot a standard reflector from camera right (slightly higher than the bottle) was my main light. The big octobox from left was only used to achieve the reflection on the left side of the bottle, it didn’t actually fire. A striplight from rear right and a softbox for the background and you’re all done.

Once in a while I’m really really glad that I don’t have to sell pictures of a particular event. Two weeks ago was such an occasion, when I went to the Donots concert at the p.p.c. – primarily to watch the band, but sure enough not without the camera. Well, not being an accredited photographer doesn’t mean you don’t have to follow the same rules as them, especially when running around with a camera easily visible throughout the entire venue – and the wrath of the security struck us hard.
We were allowed to shoot the first three songs, which is pretty much standard. In the end we were able to shoot the first two before being told by security to stop. Plus, they followed the usual photographer-defying no-frontlight-all-red route. Plus plus, there wasn’t at dedicated photographer’s pit, so we had to stand in between a rather “vivid” crowd – no fun either.
All that combined means I’ve got exactly 2 (two) photos that are more or less useable. And I’m really really glad that I wasn’t there on a job.

The 2010 TRI Styria “Days of Truth” were held last weekend, with the three disciplines spread across three days (Friday to Sunday). Arguably the most prominent participant this year was Faris Al-Sultan (GER), winner of the 2005 Ironman Hawaii.

Wow, it’s really been almost two weeks since my last post…
Well, I didn’t do much, either, so I wouldn’t have been able to share anything now either way. The following was planned to be used for the next material (plastic), but I improvised a little bit (much) and it’s not going to pass for this particular topic. Anyway, I like the photo, so here you go.
Light were an octo from the front and above and two beauty dishes as rim lights (you gotta use what you can get…). Lens was the new Nikon 45mm f/2.8 PC-E.

The Graz Giants met the Carinthian Black Lions at the ASKÖ Stadion Eggenberg, Graz. After a nerve-racking game the Black Lions won with 23:28. The Giants even had the chance for a last-minute victory, but were unable to score the final touchdown.

Some photos from the shoot with Marie on Thursday. I really enjoyed it, both the model and the location were great. Won’t have been the last time with either of them
The light was pretty straightforward, a Bowens Gemini 400 with a silver umbrella as main light and a SB-800 with gels for the background.

Not my most inspired work ever, but it turned out quite okay. Light was a Multiblitz with standard reflector and some white cardboard as fill. Lens was the Nikkor AF-S 17–55 f/2.8.

Ha ha. Oh well…
Next material in the line: You guessed it. Nutcracker + Nuts + Warm light = Instant autumn. Not that I’d miss the colder seasons right now.
Light was a 80×120 softbox as main from camera right, a SB-800 from rear left and a Multiblitz with standard reflector from rear right as rim lights (both with CTO gel) and a reflector for fill. The background was done by pricking holes in a piece of black cardboard and firing another Multiblitz with standard reflector and CTO gel behind that.
Lens was the AF-S 70–200 f/2,8.
